Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching

Back To Basics

I had a super awesome recommendation on one of my recent posts about going down to 2 balls instead of 3 to try and get some basic fundamentals down, I think this is a great idea as I cannot get the 3rd ball into play.

  • I went down to 2 balls and practiced throwing the object to this height consistently as it was one of the basic rules that Taylor Treis discussed

  • My next task was to get the “throw, throw, catch, catch pattern down”. This was difficult for me for some reason and I wanted to throw both balls at the same time and catch them both at the same time, not good.

  • I started to get a rhythm but I could throw the balls consistently. After I got frustrated, I facetimed my girlfriend and she had a great tip for me.

  • She told me to practice against a wall so that I am forced to throw the ball in an area where I am going to catch it, without it hitting the wall. I also decided to go on my knees as I seem to be bending down to pick the balls up, way easier on the hips!

    Hi Curtis,
I think I was in the same boat as you this week with being frustrated on learning my new skill. I am glad you overcame it and that throwing the balls against the wall helped. It looks like you have been more consistent with your throws since I last saw your learning project posts. Thats awesome that you are making progress!

    Hiya,
This seems to be more successful for you, the balls are getting away from you a lot less often! Great work, and well done accepting criticisms, I know that can be frustrating.
You can definitely see the progress here, even if it feels like a regression going down to two balls. You can tell that you are working with a more manageable workload now.
Your partner’s suggestion makes so much sense! Even if the wall didn’t pose a practical help (ie. making sure the balls didn’t fly off into the sunset), it definitely poses a mental help (ie. you don’t want to hit your hands on the wall, so your brain doesn’t throw them where you’d have to). Your muscle memory will build to throw them into your range this way, too!
//I’m glad your ‘competition’ is helping you out ;P//
kneeling instead so you don’t have to bend down to collect the balls each time is also a clever upgrade!
    Keep up the good work,
    Austin.
