PART II: Classroom applications document
1. Title (what is your One Great Thing)?
My one great thing is planting, growing, and nurturing flowers.
2. The rationale for your One Great Thing (why you chose the topic for the classroom that you did).
I chose flowers as my one great thing because I really enjoy having them in my life. In the summer, I enjoy walking around and looking at all of the different types of flowers. Additionally, flowers bring joy to the classroom through their burst of colour and scent, so I feel like this is something that will intrigue the students. Additionally, exploring flowers can relate to several different subjects in the Saskatchewan curriculum, making it quite relevant.
3. Indicate the grade level that you would like your One Great Thing to focus on
For the purpose of this assignment, I will be focusing on grade one. Since I do plan to teach grade one once I have completed my degree, this will be great practice for my future.
4. Create an overview of classroom applications (lesson ideas) for your One Great Thing. One classroom application (lesson idea) for each of the subjects listed below. Provide a one-paragraph summary for each application (lesson idea) that includes what the students will be doing, how the teacher will support student learning, and any learning resources or artists that will be used in the lesson. Include an application (lesson idea) for the following subjects:
a. Drama
b. Dance
c. Music
d. Visual art
e. 2-4 more subjects that are not arts-based (science, social studies, health, ELA, math, etc.)
NOTE: These lesson ideas will be provided on the next few pages of this post.
