Hello students!

Be sure to read carefully to the instructions for each activity. As always feel free to email me with any questions, concerns and for submitting your assignments. Remember when you can always click on the hyperlink for more information and that the assignments with either be a hyperlink or a downloadable document for you to complete individually.

This week we will be learning more about food security. We will about our privledges that we have compared to countries the more poor areas that border the Atlantic Ocean. (This could be places in Africa, Cuba, Ghana.)

ACTIVITY ONE

Your first activity is called, “Good Items” where you will have to research what are good food items to donate to a food bank. Make a list of at least five – ten items. Then choose one food item to answer about the following questions in part one in full sentences that show what the question is asking.  You will also need to label the parts of the page with Part One and Part Two.

What is expected of you:

  • That you have five-ten items.
  • Answer all of the questions in part one in complete and detailed sentences where other people know what is the question you are answering.
  • Create an information poster for part two.
  • Complete both parts on one document. Be sure to label your document with titles and/or subheadings.

If you have time:

  • Add pictures to part one and part two.
  • Add fun facts for part one and part two.
  • Research about what other supports are out there for people are less fortune in Canada or other countries.

ACTIVITY TWO

The second activity is called “Grocery/Meal Budget Time!!” where in part one you will only have $100.00 to spend on groceries for two weeks. (So, there should be NO negative numbers.) You are only feeding yourself. You may decide to purchase multiple quantities of certain items, please see the bottom of the excel sheet to see your on going money left to spend.

Part Two:  Plan a week of supper meals (five to seven meals) from you have spent from part one (above).  Be sure to include the recipe.  (You can assume you have few spices, basic baking items and few condiments.)

*Create your own blank document or PowerPoint to display your recipes. You will also use this document to write your reflection for part three.

Part Three: Reflect on your experience of buy your own groceries and mean planning. Did you find part one and part two difficult, Do you think the prices are accurate, What can you cook out of the meals that you have choose, What items were not on the list that you wish you could purchase.

How would you reduce the waste of your food?

*Use the same document from part two to write your reflection.

  • You have five to seven supper meals planned. Each of the meals have the recipe included.
  • Create an information poster for part two.
  • Your reflection must be completed in full sentences.
  • Complete both part two and part three on one document. Be sure to label your document with titles and/or subheadings.

If you have time:

  • Add pictures to part two.
  • Add items you may add or what spices are used in addition to what is bought.
  • Price out items you wish you could have purchased.
